
Ionica is a British stage and screen Actress & Presenter. Ionica was born and adopted from Romania at the age of 2 and a half years old. Ionica trained at East 15 Acting School.
Ionica is currently appearing in the new BBC comedy “Smoggie Queens” and appeared alongside friend and colleague Melinda Messenger in BBC’s “Pointless Celebrities”. Previous TV appearances include “Coronation Street” and Kay Mellor’s “The Syndicate”.
Some of Ionica’s other screen work include BBC One’s second series of ‘All Together Now’ as a Judge alongside Spice Girl, Geri Horner and host Rob Beckett and can be seen in Frank Berry’s BFI, “GLACIERS” alongside Steve Huison and Joe Mallalieu, produced by Oscar winner Julie Foy.
Ionica’s presenting credits include BBC Radio York, BBC Country File Live, a regular voice on BBC Leeds, Yorkshire Cast and familiar face on BBC Politics & BBC Look North. Ionica hosts at the world’s biggest dance event, ”MOVE IT’, the UK’s biggest touring Dance convention, CYD? UK, Musical Con and Cheerleading events across the UK & Ireland. Ionica hosted & presented at Chris Evans’ Carfest North and South, has created and hosted season 1 of “CANDID.” consisting of 19 episodes and most recently Ionica has recently been a face at the film festival scene hosting their award ceremonies.
Ionica was nominated and awarded as “Best Emerging Actress” at the International Achievement Recognition Awards (IARA) for her role as “Genie” in “Aladdin” and was nominated for “Best Female Solo Artist” & the “NEA Choice Award” at the National Entertainment awards. Ionica’ panto roles have spanned from Genie, Fairy Godmother, Carabosse, Baby Bear and Jasmine to name a few!
Due to Ionica’s history & life story she is regularly asked to talk at Graduations, Events, Seminars & such like. Ionica says her biggest privilege to date was Guest Speaking at Sir Michael Ruttters Memorial (of which she was the only Romanian Adoptee) at King’s College London.
Most notably Ionica fronted BBC Radio 4’s Documentary, “Ceausescu's Children”. Due to the popularity of this Ionica further featured on BBC Women hour, in “Best”, ‘Yorkshire Life’ & “Absolutely Yorkshire” Magazine, ‘The Daily Mail’ Newspaper, ‘BBC History Revealed’ Magazine, ‘Who Do You Think You Are’ Magazine and many a Podcast & Radio Show!
